Kingswood Property Management

Web Design Aberystwyth SEO

Kingswood Property Management based in Daventry contacted us because they were looking to update their current website to something which had both a fresh new look and easy to use features.

As a letting agent it was essential that they had round the clock access to their website to add and update properties as they came onto their books. After looking into using 1&1 My Website the business called On Target to see if we could offer them a better deal and a more professional service.

After finding out more about their business and researching local competitors we have been able to provide a website solution which can be accessed through any web browser and updated by the business in real time. Once the website is updated with new properties these updates are automatically posted to the companies newly created Twitter and Facebook profiles to allow them to build up an audience of potential tennants in the area who will then be regularly updated as new homes become available from a single point of entry.

A property search feature based on the WordPress Category & Tagging features also allows visitors to the site to find a property that meets their needs reducing the time they would have spent looking through a single longer generic list.

The website briefly comprises of:

  • WordPress Content Management System
  • SEO Optimised Content
  • Latest Homes Homepage Slider
  • Social Media Auto-Update Functionality
  • Property Search Function
  • Contact Form

We also helped the business to claim their Google Places page and add any extra details that were missing in order to help them attract more enquiries and visitors to their new website.

Hundred Pound Homes

Web Design Liverpool

HundredPoundHomes.co.uk offers exactly what it say’s on the tin.

This exciting new business requires a straight forward website that clearly states what the business is all about. The business also wanted a very clean looking website, with featured content areas so that the site could be updated on a regular basis to encourage repeat visitors and create a regular buzz around their service. One key feature of the site was the requirement for a shopping cart function which could be adapted to allow the site to operate within the rules of the Gambling Act 2005 by testing a users skill or knowledge whilst allowing users to enter a prize draw for the home of their choice.

The site is due for completion on 18th June this year, and on going website maintenance and support will be provided by On Target to help the business get their message across and realise the huge potential that they have. To do this in a streamlined way the site has intergrated email marketing signup and social media accounts which automatically publish updates to services such as Facebook, Twitter and RSS2Email at the same time as the website is updated.

The website briefly comprises of:

  • Featured Content Slider
  • Content Management System
  • Social Media Accounts
  • Auto Publishing
  • Email Marketing
  • SEO Optimised Content
  • Custom Header Image
  • Shopping Cart

All site updates and social media marketing are being outsourced to On Target upon completion of the website so that the business can focus on its plans for rapid growth through direct sales, which will underpinned by our support.

Yell Sites Review

1&1 my website reviewA number of large companies in the UK have recently launched web design & SEO services for customers such as 1&1 my website and BT. Another company to throw its hat into the ring is Yellow Pages who have launched their web design service Yell Sites.

Yell Sites offer what can only be described as cookie cutter templates which all look incredibly similar except for the couple of industry specific images they have picked out along with high charges for additional pages once you exceed around 4 or 5. The extra charges is where Yell Sites really start to make their money. The company charges a monthly fee (around £60 seems to be the average) to keep the site online and many of their add-on charges actually put many businesses off having a larger website with more pages and more targeted content. Understandably a lower cost option appeals to many businesses, but it could be costing you potential customers in the longer term.

One of the key principles of SEO, which helps to drive greater volumes of traffic to your website and therefore give you a better return on your investment is to target one search term per page on your website. If you offer 10 distinct services in your local area you should create a page per service to better target your potential customers. Each service is a seperate search term and should have a seperate page.

Further to this the wording of many websites by Yellow Pages is really just nothing more than keyword spamming. Spamming keywords affects the natural flow of your content making it more difficult to read and is essentially a lazy way of trying to bring in additional visitors. However the way that your content is worded actually just reflects badly on your business, meaning your conversion rate of visitors to customers is lower than it should be as your Yell Sites website turns potential customers away. For example of poor quality content see this FSB discussion about two thirds of the way down. What would your first impression be of a business with that standard of content on their website?

Yell Sites also appears as a sponsored advert when you look up a web designer in your local area on the Yellow Pages website. The first result you will see is a link to Yell Sites, where their own customers have only given them a 3 out of 5 review score on average for their service which is pretty poor and just smacks of another big company taking advantage of small businesses. However this is better than the ratings received by 1&1 whose customer support is supposedly awful.

For further information or a no obligation quote please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, we think you’ll be suprised at just how competitive our prices are when compared with the likes of Yell Sites, BT and even other independent firms!

Custom Community Dropped Right Sidebar Fix

If you happen to use the Custom Community theme in WordPress you may have come across a problem which causes the right sidebar to drop level with the footer.

Custom Community WordPress Right Sidebar Drops Into Footer

After fruitless hours of searching the web looking for a fix, and deciding not to go down the route of paying for the Pro version to get it direct from the developers I decided to have a go at fixing it myself.

As with all of life’s big problems the solution turned out to be a simple one (for me anyway!).

If you have used the visual editor in WordPress to create a page or post the editor adds <div> tags to every block of content in your new page or post. By going into the HTML editor tab you can see all the tags it has added. Deleting every single <div> and </div> tag and updating the page or post did the trick for me and brought the sidebar back into line!

Fed Up With Updating 5 Different Services With The Same Information?

Do you appreciate the importance of updating your website, but are sick and tired of updating Facebook, Twitter, email marketing lists and more every time you update your site? If so then we can help by linking your social media and email marketing directly into your new or existing website* to automatically update everytime you publish something new.

How Do I Automatically Update Facebook Twitter From My WebsiteYour business can benefit hugely from making good use of social media outlets like Twitter, and they have revolutionised the way that many businesses advertise and reach out to their customers.

In this new and exciting world of online opportunity many businesses are regularly blogging and updating websites with their latest news and the goings on in their industry or sector which is opening new doors and extending client bases.

This new approach to marketing your business has many many benefits, but it also has one major drawback, and this drawback is the need to commit time regularly to updating your website followed by updating services like Facebook and Twitter. The extra time taken to log in and out of each service and rewrite excerpts and add links can take its toll when your resources are stretched, but we can help by still keeping you on top of your website updates whilst linking in your additional social media and email marketing services to update automatically every time you publish something new on your site. For more information or a no obligation quote please call us today.

*Please note that the list of services which can be linked in to your website is based on your Content Management System. If you are unsure which CMS you have you can contact us and we will be happy to help.

Twitter Courses To Help Grow Your Business

Twitter Courses Small Business Tyre Industry Twitter Use CourseGeneric day courses on how to use Twitter to grow your customer base are nothing new and are all well and good for the big corporate firms selling products in their thousands by the day, but what about the tyre & garage sector for example?

As with all things technology these innovations seem to whisper in our ears, but then just pass us by on the whole.

Whether you are a global brand like Pirelli or Conti, or an MOT provider in Manchester you can use these tools and there are huge opportunities you are missing by not getting on the Twitter band wagon. The network now has over 150 million users, and provides you with a method of tapping in to topics and conversations which can help to bring you more business.

Tyres for example are not a sexy product, and they never will be. Without the right strategy you will be wasting your time try to sell a ‘Today Only’ special offer on a full set of 205/55R16V Hankook because the chances are people won’t have the desire or need to buy them today. However there are ways and means of tapping into social networks such as Twitter to generate more business, namely by pushing intangible services and bi-products which will bring you more sales such as free tyre checks and money off vouchers, such as those sent out using our MOT & Service reminder system.

On Target can provide day courses covering the following areas in depth to meet your needs:

  • Setup & Branding
  • Building A Following
  • How To Tweet
  • Best Practice
  • Strategies

If you would like to know more about Twitter courses for businesses then please get in touch. You can also outsource your social media marketing to us, and we can do it for you.

How To Optimize Website URLs

Optimising Website URLs for SEO is a key part of designing any successful website which ranks well within search engines such as Google.

Optimise Website URL WordPress Slug Optimisation Plugin

Each individual web page has its own unique URL which follows the domain name and this piece of the URL is known as the slug.

Many people creating a website for the first (or even the hundredth!) time do not realise the importance of optimising slugs for SEO.

There are a few key points to remember:

  • Make them short but descriptive
  • Make them logical (readable)
  • Remove stop words

An optimised slug should contain the keywords which best describe that page in a logical order which makes them more readable (like a sentence) and therefore more likely to match a users search term.

All search engines have a list of stop words which they also ignore when a user enters a search. A list of common stop words is available online for you to view. In order to improve keyword proximity it is important that you remove stop words from a slug.

Users of the WordPress system can install a plugin to do this automatically. The Relevanssi plugin automatically removes any stopwords it finds in a slug before you publish a page or post to your website or blog.

To optimise your slug in WordPress go to Settings \ Permalinks and set your structure to ‘Post Name’. The next time you go to add or edit a post or page you will now see an ‘Edit’ option next to your slug which will allow you to have complete control over your URL to create a descriptive keyword packed slug for your content.

Importance Of Keyword Proximity For SEO

Keyword Proximity Importance SEO Readability vs Keyword Proximity DensityIn order to rank a web page search engines such as Google take into account a number of things of varying importance in order to determine which order they should appear in for certain search terms.

One major piece of the SEO puzzle is keywords and keyword proximity.

What is a keyword?

A keyword is a single word or phrase which you would expect someone looking for your website to search for in a search engine.

Many people using search engines are now leaning towards the use of long tail keywords. For example many internet users are now more likely to use a phrase such as “surfing equipment hire in Newquay” over “surfing equipment hire” because they have learnt that being more specific gives them more accurate information in return. Therefore you should make your content more specific in order to reach out to the correct audience.

What is keyword proximity?

Keyword proximity is the distance within a piece of text between two or more keywords. For example if someone were searching for “swimming pools in Cardiff” you would expect a site containing this sentence:

“There are a number of swimming pools in Cardiff

To rank higher than this one:

Cardiff has a total of 17 swimming pools

The keywords used in the search are in closer proximity in the first sentence, which therefore makes it more relevant.

Many people try to cram their content with keywords until it is fit to burst and does not flow naturally to the point where it becomes difficult to read and understand. Do not do this. Users do not like decoding your content. They want something that is easy to read, and simple to understand and will most likely leave your site and fail to recommend your website to others.

Keyword proximity is important, but so is readability. If you are looking for extra keyword density make sure you make use of your alt tag in your images. The alt tag shows a text alternative to an image for those who have a text only browser, and can be used to add further destcriptive keywords to a page without them having to be logical as they are not meant to be read.

The key points to remember are:

  • Identify Your Relevant Keywords And Phrases
  • Construct Your Content To Contain Those Words And Phrases
  • Keep It Readable

And remember that most people construct their search terms the same way that they would construct a sentence when speaking.

For example you are more likely to see:

“Restaurants in Chester

As opposed to:

“Chester Restaurants”

So use the top one in your content, and the second and less readable one in your alt tags.
